One to Watch-Blakeley

I first met Blakeley 25 years ago in college and knew instantly that she was a forever friend. One of the most fun people to be around, with a huge heart and smile, Blakeley always is there to help. She is passionate about helping women and is a global public health professional and maternal mental health advocate with over 20 years of experience working to improve the health outcomes of women, children and other marginalized populations in the U.S. and East Africa. When most of us were still figuring out what we wanted to do in life, Blakeley was traveling to Africa to help women in underprivileged communities. She founded Changing Winds Consulting LLC, which focuses on advising community-based maternal health organizations.

You would think that a husband, two kids and working as curriculum chair and professor of community health at Westchester Community College would keep her busy enough, but not for this girl. Blakeley is also on the Operating Board of Open Door Family Medical Center and serves as Chair of the Board of Directors for TIP Global Health, an organization working in Rwanda, whose mission is to achieve lasting improvements in health outcomes in resource-limited settings. This amazing momma doesn’t stop when it comes to helping other women. Her passion and dedication is inspiring. She is the kind of friend that you aren’t just proud of, you are in awe of. Like many of us out there, Blakeley suffered from Postpartum Depression and is a true advocate to help others, especially those in areas with under-serving maternal care. Oh, and did I mention that this fearless woman is also running for a seat on the Board of Education for Bedford Central School District? This woman is one to watch, which is why we have chosen her as one of our awesome women worth knowing.

If you are lucky enough to have a friend like Blakeley in your world, please let us know. Perhaps they can be a feature in a future spotlight. Email us at hello@altruesm.com
